Email Configuration Guide for iPhone/iPad (got.net)

Before You Begin

  • Make sure your username has been updated to the new format: username@got.net
  • If your email address uses a different domain (like barney@flintstones.com), use that domain instead of got.net
  • Verify your username and password work by logging into the webmail at https://webmail.got.net

Setting Up Email on iPhone

Step 1: Access Mail Settings

  1. Tap on the Settings app on your iPhone home screen
     
  2. Scroll down and tap on Mail

Step 2: Add Your Account

  1. Tap on Accounts
  2. Tap on Add Account
  3. Tap on Other at the bottom of the list
  4. Tap on Add Mail Account
 

Step 3: Enter Your Account Information

  1. Fill in your account details:
    • Name: Your full name
    • Email: Your full email address (e.g., yourname@got.net)
    • Password: Your email account password
    • Description: A name for this account (e.g., "Work Email" or "GOT.NET")
  2. Tap Next

Step 4: Choose Account Type

  1. Select either IMAP or POP (IMAP recommended)

Step 5: Configure Incoming Mail Settings

For IMAP (recommended):

  1. Enter the following details:
    • Host Name: mail.got.net
    • Username: Your full email address (e.g., yourname@got.net)
    • Password: Your email account password
  2. Use one of these security/port combinations:
    • Port: 143 with Security: STARTTLS
    • Port: 993 with Security: SSL

For POP3:

  1. Enter the following details:
    • Host Name: mail.got.net
    • Username: Your full email address (e.g., yourname@got.net)
    • Password: Your email account password
     
  2. Use one of these security/port combinations:
    • Port: 110 with Security: STARTTLS
    • Port: 995 with Security: SSL
 

Step 6: Configure Outgoing Mail Settings

  1. Enter the following details:
    • Host Name: mail.got.net
    • Username: Your full email address (e.g., yourname@got.net)
    • Password: Your email account password
  2. Use one of these security/port combinations:
    • Port: 587 with Security: STARTTLS
    • Port: 465 with Security: SSL
  3. Make sure Authentication is set to Password
  4. Tap Save in the upper right corner

Step 7: Choose Mail Options

  1. Select which data you want to sync (Mail, Contacts, Calendars, etc.)
  2. Tap Save

Step 8: Verify Setup

  1. Open the Mail app
  2. Check that your emails are syncing properly
     

Updating an Existing Account

If you need to update an existing account:

  1. Go to Settings > Mail > Accounts
  2. Select your existing got.net account
     
  3. Tap on Account > SMTP (for outgoing mail) or Advanced (for incoming mail)
     

  1. Update the server settings as detailed above
  2. Tap Done to save your changes

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues after setup:

  1. Verify all server names and ports are correct
  2. Make sure your username includes the full email address
  3. Check that your password is entered correctly
  4. Try both security options (STARTTLS or SSL)
  5. Ensure your internet connection is working properly
