Email Configuration Guide for Apple Mail

Before You Begin

  • Make sure your username has been updated to the new format: username@got.net
  • If your email address uses a different domain (like barney@flintstones.com), use that domain instead of got.net
  • Verify your username and password work by logging into the webmail at https://webmail.got.net

Account Settings Summary

Connection Settings

SMTP Settings (For Outgoing Mail)

  • Server Address: mail.got.net
  • Port: 587 / Security: STARTTLS
    or
    Port 465 / Security: SSL
  • Authentication Required: password
  • Username: Your full email address (e.g., yourname@got.net)
  • Password: Your email account password

IMAP Settings (For Incoming Mail)

  • Server Address: mail.got.net
  • Port: 143 / Security: STARTTLS
    or
    Port: 993 / Security: SSL
  • Authentication Required: password
  • Username: Your full email address (e.g., yourname@got.net)
  • Password: Your email account password

POP3 Settings (For Incoming Mail)

  • Server Address: mail.got.net
  • Port: 110 / Security: STARTTLS
    or
    Port: 995 / Security: SSL
  • Authentication Required: password
  • Username: Your full email address (e.g., yourname@got.net)
  • Password: Your email account password

Setting Up Email on Apple Mail

Step 1: Open Mail Menu

  1. Open Apple Mail application

  2. Click on "Mail" in the menu bar at the top of the screen

    Step 2: Access Account Settings

  1. From the Mail menu, select "Accounts..." as shown in the dropdown menu

  2. If "Accounts..." is not visible, select "Settings..." and then navigate to the Accounts section

Step 3: Add a New Account

  1. In the Accounts window, click the "Add Account" button in the left corner to add a new account

  2. Alternatively, you can go to Mail > Add Account... from the menu options shown in your screenshot

Step 4: Select Account Type

  1. Select "Other Mail Account..." or "Add Other Account..." option

  2. Click "Continue" to proceed

Step 5: Enter Account Information

  1. Enter your account details:
    • Full Name: Your name (as you want it to appear in outgoing messages)
    • Email Address: Your full email address (e.g., yourname@got.net)
    • Password: Your email account password

  2. Click "Sign In" or "Continue"

Step 6: Configure Server Information

  1. For the account type, select "IMAP" (recommended) or "POP"

  2. Enter the incoming mail server information:
    • Incoming Mail Server: mail.got.net
    • Username: Your full email address (e.g., yourname@got.net)
    • Password: Your email account password
  3. Enter the outgoing mail server information:
    • Outgoing Mail Server: mail.got.net
    • Username: Your full email address (e.g., yourname@got.net)
    • Password: Your email account password

  4. Click "Sign In" or "Continue"

Step 7: Configure Server Settings

  1. Once the account is added, select it from the accounts list on the left (as shown in your screenshot where "Got" is selected)
  2. Make sure you're in the "Server Settings" tab at the top of the window

  3. For Incoming Mail Server (IMAP), verify or update the following settings:
    • Username: Your full email address (e.g., username@got.net)
    • Password: Your email account password
    • Host Name: mail.got.net
    • Port: 143
    • Check "Use TLS/SSL"
    • Authentication: Password
  4. For Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), verify or update the following settings in the same window:
    • Username: Your full email address (e.g., username@got.net)
    • Password: Your email account password
    • Host Name: mail.got.net
    • Port: 587
    • Check "Use TLS/SSL"
    • Authentication: Password

  5. If you need more advanced IMAP settings, click the "Advanced IMAP Settings" button
  6. Click "Save" in the bottom right corner to apply your changes
  7. Close the Accounts window
  8. Mail will begin syncing your messages

Updating an Existing Account

If you need to update an existing account:

  1. In Apple Mail, go to Mail > Accounts... as shown in your screenshot
  2. Select your got.net account from the list on the left
  3. Update the Account Information and Server Settings as needed
  4. For SMTP settings, use the dropdown menu to select "Edit SMTP Server List"
  5. Update the server settings using the information above
  6. Click "OK" or "Save" to apply your changes

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues after setup:

  1. Verify all server names and ports are correct
  2. Make sure your username includes the full email address
  3. Check that your password is entered correctly
  4. Try both security options (STARTTLS or SSL)
  5. Ensure your internet connection is working properly
  6. Restart Apple Mail after making changes
  7. If authentication fails, make sure "Authentication" is set to "Password" in the SMTP settings
